Elder Tubbs
Elder Vernon Tubbs, Jr. serves as Interim Pastor of The Church at Philadelphia, leading with a heart centered on love, healing, and unity. During this season of growth & renewal, his leadership reflects a steady commitment to guiding God’s people with compassion, wisdom, and a deep reliance on the Spirit.

A Calling That Wouldn’t Let Go
Elder Tubbs sensed God’s call on his life at an early age. In 1975, he first heard that call, but like many young people, he struggled to fully embrace it. Again in 1978, the call resurfaced, yet life’s interests and pursuits made it easy to set aside. In 1982, at the age of 21, he became a deacon at Greater Antioch Baptist Church—but even then, God was calling him deeper. Finally, in 1996, he answered that call to preach. He delivered his first sermon on the fourth Sunday of February 1996, and from that moment forward, he has faithfully followed God’s leading.

Built Through Service
Elder Tubbs began serving as an Associate Minister at Greater Antioch Baptist Church in 1996. In 2007, he continued his ministry at The Church at Philadelphia as an Associate Minister. In 2025, he stepped into the role of Associate Pastor, and in 2026, he now serves as Interim Pastor.

Each step reflects a life of consistent service, obedience, and growth in ministry.

Faith, Family, and Foundation
Elder Tubbs earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, with a focus in Health and Physical Education, from Tarleton State University. His studies reflect his understanding of what the body needs, while his continued study of God’s Word shapes his care for the soul.

He has been married to his wife, Pamela Tubbs, for over 38 years. Together, they have built a strong and loving family. They are blessed with three children—Phalonzo, Teffany, and James—and six grandchildren.

Ministry Beyond the Walls
Elder Tubbs’ personal ministry has always extended beyond the church. Through years of volunteering in youth sports, food banks, and community programs, he has consistently served others with a genuine heart.

What began simply as a love for helping people became a calling in itself. His passion for mentoring, supporting, and walking alongside others continues to shape his ministry today.

Guided by God, Grounded in Service
Elder Tubbs believes that true leadership begins with being led by God. His philosophy is simple—follow God’s direction and lead people with integrity, humility, and care.

He is a hands-on leader who does not hesitate to step in and work alongside others. Whether leading or serving, he is committed to doing the work and helping others grow in the process.

Season of Growth & Renewal
Elder Tubbs’ vision for The Church at Philadelphia is for every parishioner and guest to experience a ministry rooted in love—where God’s love is felt, shared, and lived out daily.

His heart is to help the church move forward in a healthy, whole place—strengthened, restored, and ready to embrace all that God has in store for His people.

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past
Behold, I will do a new thing! ... "
~Isaiah 43: 18-19
Elder Tubbs’ prayer is that all who encounter this ministry will experience God’s love in a real and transformative way, and that together, the church will continue to grow, serve, and walk boldly in purpose.
